Renaissance is known as the rebirth. The time when people rediscovered Greek and Latin texts, and were interested in science, literature, history, and art. Universities were founded, and it became important to become well educated. During the Renaissance more humanist thinkers transpired, men wanting to know what a human being and good life was, and how to lead a good life. Humanist thinkers believed that men and women could make their lives better without the help from god. They thought that the best possible human possession and the one and only source of true happiness was virtue. In pursuing their beliefs and thoughts, the humanists aided in the development of the European Renaissance, and they helped develop the new modern secular world. The social and economic developments that fostered a growing interest in reading and learning began in Italy, because of their economic rise from banking and trade. As a result of the growing scholarly interest, they started develop new ways that information could be transferred. In the earlier years books were hand written and there were only limited copies of each; a solution for this was to start printing books, allowing them to be less expensive and have several copies. Around the time of the rise in humanistic thinkers, the reformation began. People started rejecting higher authority, especially from the pope and the Italian churchmen. Nationalism was one of the main force that led people to challenge the power of the Roman Catholic Church in England. People realized how much the church rank was corrupted, and they got fed up of the wealthy becoming wealthier, and that “normal” people were kept poor. King Henry VIII declared himself as the head of the new English Church after hiring a new archbishop. As a result of this the people of England started breaking out of the Catholic Church, so they could rather be apart of the Church of England or become individuals. The church, puritans, Baptists, Presbyterians, dissenters, and non-conformists wanted to get rid of “popish”, because they believed that the religion was mainly between the individual and god. People began to become more of individual thinkers, which lead towards big forces challenging the power of the Roman Catholic Church.

During the Renaissance, which means "rebirth", the idea of humanism came about. Humanism was the effort to seek knowledge and wisdom not only from the bible, but also from classic Latin and Greek works. Humanists were interested in science, literature, history, and art. They believed that one should seek to be virtuous above being wealthy and successful. Humanists wanted to combine the knowledge of the bible with classic works, not overshadow it. Desiderius Erasmus, a very well-known humanist, was the epitome of their beliefs, he was a monk yet he lived outside the monastery and traveled throughout Europe. Humanism was more easily spread with the beginning of the printing press, which allowed books to become cheaper and easier to obtain. Eventually, people began to challenge the pope and the Roman Catholic Church because they disagreed with humanist views. Which caused the pope to impose financial burdens on England and nationalism began to rise.

Humanists interested themselves in questions like: What is a human being? What is a good life? How do I lead a good life? During these periods the Christian religion fulfilled all of these questions but humanists were saying them to revitalize their way of thinking. The Renaissance really fostered the humanist thinking. It did it effectively by people who were interested in many fields of study and were willing to dedicate their lives to something more than their careers and futures. They invested themselves into thought which caused a boom in science and other subjects of study. Universities also contributed to the humanist thinkers. They developed more infrastructure and started taking on more students. Now all thoughts and knowledge didn't just come from the monks in the monasteries. The Renaissance started up mostly in Italy where their were wealthy scholars that started putting in lots of money to fund this new age of thought. This new way of thought contributed to changing how the catholic church was viewed. The humanists didn't agree with the church and said the bible translations were ignorant. Humanists started to fall into Martin Luther's thought that the bible can be translated by people in their own specific point of view. The people also resented how the church had put in financial burdens on people. Nationalism began to rise and then the opposition to the pope showed up along with this. New doctrines rose up against the church such as: Puritans, Baptists, Presbyterians, dissenters, and conformists. After a century or 2 the renaissance but new ideologies that drove the new world rose and were there to stay.

For number one they talk about the rebirth known as the renaissance. Some things that are motioned for example would be the creation of the printing press and the rise of nationalism. Another thing that was brought up was about that most books had to be hand written for a while then the printing press made it a lot easier for books to be copied and made. Then the books uncovered things like science, literature, history, art and other things. There was also an age that everyone should be nice and show respect to others. A lot also took place in Italy and painting was very well known for example is the Vatican has a lot of painting, and trying to humanize texts. Another big focus was on the protestants, puritans, Baptists, Presbyterians and the royal navy.

The Renaissance, which means rebirth, was a time of change, a time of different thinking. It changed things such as science, history and art. The Catholic Church had always had a lot of money and the pope and Italian churchmen had a lot to say when it came to governing and making every day decisions. People wanted to read, but books were very expensive, so not many had the privilege to read one since they didn’t have enough money. Gutenberg came with the printing press, using this machine, books were simply copied, and what would normally take a long time was now done in a short amount of time, making these books cheap. More people started reading. People started to think different about the Catholic Church. For example, King Henry VIII rejected the power of the pope and the Italian churchmen, and the financial burdens that the church put on people. King Henry VII was mad he couldn't re-marry, so he decided he would make himself the new head of the English church.

During the Renaissance period, may concepts sprung up that were previously un-thought of during the Dark Ages. Firstly the church had, to this point never been challenged by any group or any one. When Henry VIII broke away from the church it was the first blow to an unmovable force. Secondly the Spreading of English print books furthered the English language and pushed creative thought to society. The amount of books in circulation boosted literacy rates to all new highs causing higher level thinking as well. In the end the creation of an easily accessible print medium caused the beginning of the churches strangle hold on Europe.

Throughout the middle ages many of the scholars at the time were interested in things such as alchemy, immortality, and the ability to turn any object into gold. Near the end of the middle ages and with the rise of the renaissance came a different type of scholar, ones who cared about classical literature and learning, these scholars were called humanists and they were the group who caused the rise of society during the middle ages and revived the ideals of learning from the past. One reason the humanists had such an impact on society is that they took a special interest in greek and latin texts, which gave them a greater understanding of all the knowledge from the past and a better grasp on what the greeks and romans wrote about. Humanists also tried to gain a better understanding of themselves, why they (we) are here, how they got here, and how should they be living life. All this together brought the idea of how could they re-organize the church for the better of the people. When the humanists began to grasp the idea that they could change the roman catholic church and its ways many began to protest the church and were able to revise how the church conducted business. The first thing humanists did was they used the newly found classical texts (from Greece and rome) to support the bible and its teachings, coupled with the rise of thinkers like More and Erasmus even commoners began to question the church and protest against. The next crippling blow came with the reformation and the posting of Martin Luthers 95 thesis on the church in Augsburg that shook the foundations of faith in all of Europe that caused the rejection of papal authority even up to the king of England who declared himself head of the English church and sold the churches to the people to let them do with as they please. Through all these factors commoners realized they could do so much with knowledge that they revitalized an interest in learning and reading, which was also stimulated by social and economic developments. The first such development was the idea created by humanists that a virtuous life (one filled with happiness and knowledge) was better than a life a wealth. This along with the creation of the printing press in Germany allowed the masses to collect and purchase many books giving them the chance to learn even more and support their interests. Finally when the protestant church split and the royal navy was developed people began to realize things they had never imagined before and realized that with knowledge came the power to do the impossible which has led up to many of the great findings and possibilities of the 20th and 21st centuries.

During the period we now call the Renaissance many important changes happened in the way the people viewed their surroundings. Renaissance is the French word for rebirth and was used to name the period after the middle ages because there was a refound interest for ancient Greek and Roman literature. A new more secular scientifical way of thinking emerged which led people to start to doubt the Catholic Church and Protestantism was born. Martin Luther reformed the church in Germany, and others in Britain and other parts of Europe soon followed. The break between the church and King Henry VIII was caused by the popes rejection of the annulment of marriage between Catherine of Aragon and the King. The King wanted to remarry because he believed that Catherine could not give him a male heir. Many people were angry at the church for hypocrisy and corruption. The emergence of the printing press helped educate people which led them to think on their own instead of blindly following the church’s teachings. The Renaissance is also known as the time of the patrons of the arts. Kings, noblemen, popes, bishops or even rich merchants sponsored painters, sculptors and scientists. Instead of focusing on one skill it was sought after to be a “Renaissance man”. People like Galileo or Da Vinci who was a painter, an inventor, a sculptor and a musician emerged and set new standards in science.

Humanist thinkers were interested in questions, such as: "What is a good human being?" "What is a good life?" and "How do I lead a good life?" They found the answers to their questions in the wisdom of the Bible and in old abandoned Greek and Latin classics, and in their study of science, literature, art and other subjects. They chose to live wise and virtuous, instead of famous and successful.

Starting in 1485, the Renaissance swept throughout western civilization and began to change the way people thought. Before the Renaissance, all aspects of life were lived in a very religiously careful way, without thoughts straying from religious values. The Renaissance period spun off of interests in Greek and Roman literature, artwork, and sciences. As the general population were educated to these topics, everyday people started thinking in a more secular manner. This rebirth of arts was spread due to an increase in wealth, and inventions such as the printing press, which made books more available to the public. Sculptors and painters were paid hefty rewards to create works of art that reflected these old ideals as opposed to the ones that had been in place, prior to the Renaissance. As the new ideas brought with the Renaissance spread throughout western civilization, people began to challenge the divine authority of the papacy, and many groups such as the Puritans, Baptists, Bresbyterians, Dissenters, and Noncomformists, moved away from the Roman Catholic Church completely, with the groups deciding they can have a direct relationship with God, without going through the Catholic Church. King Henry VIII even started his own church, as he was not allowed to remarry under the Roman Catholic Churches rule, and he did not believe in all of the taxes imposed on people for worship.
