In Herrick's "To the Virgins, to Make Much Time" he is lecturing the poem to a group of virgins. The speaker tells them that they should live life as they can because it will be gone before you know it. He believes that everything after our youth isn't worth living for; basically that your teen years will be the best time in your life. In the end of the poem he tries to convince the virgins to live their life and get married before they lose their beauty. In Milton's "When I consider “How My Light is Spent" the poet is depicting how he is living his life in a multicolor world that is now too dark for him. In the line "When I consider how my light is spent" he is indicating his blindness, and that’s the meaning behind it all as to why he wrote about a flawless world that he could no longer view with his own eyes. The deliberation of suicide was there, but that thought made him crazy; thinking that his aptitude would become inefficient. Milton refers to death with sarcasm, and he really shows the reader how upset and livid he is. He enjoyed writing, and the blindness made it a struggle but his confidence never left and he continued to be dedicated. In the poem he says that he will do his duties no matter the difficulty, his devotion seemed to make him feel like he could accomplish anything he wanted to. In my opinion, these poems appeal to human emotion more than they appeal to human logic. We see about Herrick who states that youth is your only “best” time, which can imply to his own feelings regarding the older age. In Milton's poem see how his blindness shakes things up, but that his view of God kept his audacity successful. These two poems influence more to human emotion because the poets illustrate their emotional feelings rather than logical ways of thinking.

In Herrick’s "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time", Herrick’s theme of the poem is that the youth and beauty that you have right now will not last forever. The more time passes, the more it will show "That age is best which is the first, when youth and blood are warmer; but being spent, the worse, and worst times still succeed the former." Herrick is saying while you are young and have your beauty go have fun “and while ye may, go marry". Now, as for Milton's "When I Consider how my Light is spent" the theme of the poem is how are they supposed to go about their day and do their part in society if they are given challenge? "And that one talent which is death to hide lodged with me useless, though my soul more bent to serve with my Maker" which Milton later suggests and answer by saying that "'God doth not need either man’s work or his own gifts" In Herrick’s poem he tries to use emotions and the logic of the science of aging to support his topic, because women knew that hard working men didn’t want an old woman who couldn’t help out as well, while Herrick also plays to the readers emotions when he said that the youth and beauty of a woman is key to marriage, and that love cannot overcome the challenges you may face such as age. While in Milton's poem he uses his logic to interest the reader to support his topic, and says that even with his “blindness” and his wish to finish what he’s started, he wishes to believe that God expects him to do his job because of his given talent, that God doesn’t want work to be done by his children. All God wants is that for his children to remain faithful no matter what happens. In any darkness that approaches you.

The "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time" by Robert Herrick talks about the virgins and that they should finally hurry up and marry before time catches up with them. " And this same flower that smiles today, tomorrow will be dying"(line 3-4). Herrick is trying to say to the virgins that they won't stay young forever. He is also saying that our youth is the most precious of all. "That age is best which is the first, when youth and blood are warmer but being spent, the worse, and worst times still succeed the former(line 9-12). We are only young for ones. And while we are still young, beautiful and healthy we should enjoy the life and marry while we can.

In Herrick's 'To the Virgins" the main theme is to live your life wile you're still young. Your young life is the best times of your life. You won't have another chance to relive it, so live it while you can. By the time youre old, you want to have memories of the times youve had as a young person, so don't waste your youth. 'When i consider how my light is spent" Milton describes himself and his blindness and now it inspired him. He describes how he can't see the world anymore due to his blindness. Writing is his life and he was not going to let his condition stop him. He remained patient and "hopped back on his horse."

The theme of "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time" by Robert Herrick is that you are supposed to seize the day and not worry about your future, worry about the day. The theme of the poem can be seen when he says: "Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old time is still a-flying;" (Line 1-2). Robert Herrick is saying that we are supposed to seize the moment and very much relates to human emotion and human logic, because we shouldn't worry too much about what is going to happen in our future, and we should live every day as if it was our last.

John Milton’s “When I Consider How My Light is Spent,” is about John Milton evaluating his life after he lost his eye sight, while Robert Herrick’s “To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time,” is about giving advice about how to use life’s precious time. These two poems connect because they are evaluating a sense of time in life. These poems appeal to the human emotion because they looking back on their life determining how they spent their time. This creates emotions of depression in the beginning of the poems, when they first look at their life, and the closer towards the end, the poems become content the information they have just described. Both of these poems are giving advice. “To the Virgin” is giving advice about how to use your time specifically towards the pleasers of life; “then be not coy, but use your time” (line 13). While “When I Consider” is indirectly giving advice that you should be patient when experiencing life an always have more of a positive outlook; “but patience, to prevent that murmur, soon replies, “God doth not need either man’s work or His own gifts” (line 8-10).

In Herrick’s "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time", Herrick is showing the young people some flowers and how they wither away after a while. This could be seen as a theme of him saying that the best moments of your life are during your youth and that you shouldn’t waste your moments and try to enjoy them as much as you can. For Milton's "When I Consider how my Light is spent" he basically ask God if there was something he could do even though he had no vision but then a figure called patience answers his question with him basically saying that you having the patience to stay there and wait for him was good enough. So both poems are similar for they both talk how people spend or how they should spend their time and the choices they make. They are also different because of because while one talks about how you should take action before time runs out the other talks about have the patience to wait for an outcome. In Herrick’s poem the things he use are logic and some scientific info about aging which is still also logic. He also plays with emotions by saying how people would mostly go for people in their prime. In Milton’s poem the stuff he brings up is more just how people would see things in a situation like this with him bringing up how people didn’t have to work for God but they needed to always have faith.

These two poems have to morals one moral is to live your life wisely and make the best of it. The other poem is about how he wished he had lived his life. In the poem “To the virgins to make much of time.” This poem is about how we have all the time right now in our hands and we have to use this time we have wisely. If we don’t use all the time we have right now wisely we could regret it tomorrow or when the time is too late. Lines 2-4 in “To the VIrgins, to make much of time”. “Old time is still a-flying and this same flower smiles today but tomorrow will be dying” this is saying that we still have time now and we should embrace it and make it the best we can because tomorrow could simply be too late.In line 5 “The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun, the higher hes a getting” Each day we are getting closer and closer to when we go to heaven and today we have a beautiful light that is representing the sun. We have the light that gives us today and we can make it the best we can. We need to enjoy it and be thankful for each day we are given because we have each day and each day we continue to live. We do not need to keep regrets or have them. We need to live freely (within reason) make the best of our lives for what we have today. In the poem “When I consider how my light is spent” the poet is talking about how some days are good and some days are bad in lines 1 and 2 “when i consider how my light is spent ere half my days in the dark world and wide” we all have struggles in life, not each day is perfect and it never will be perfect. We can have really good days and so on but nothing in life will ever be perfect. He was told he should put his beautiful talents to use everyday and that is when he had found faith in God. Line 5 “Though my soul more bent to serve therewith my maker and present” he had found faith in his maker God. he needs to use his talents. “God doth not need either mans work or his own gifts who best bear his mild yoke they serve him best. Gis state is kingly: thousands at his bidding speed and post o’er land and ocean without rest they also serve who only stand and wait.” We need to use all the gifts that god has given us because every time we use his gifts that we are given then we are using our gifts/talents wisely. That makes everyday that we live even better and better each time. Using something we have and making a beautiful life or a beautiful day out of what we are given. Cherish the beauty of live and the beauty or the gifts and talents we are given. Never take each day for granted just enjoy it the best way we can because tomorrow we could be to late and in the end would leave us with regrets or not another chance.
