Throughout the story Huckleberry Finn, all the characters play a good role in showing what it was like in the world back in that time period. The store shows how racism was, things before the civil before, how slavery worked, intellectual and moral education, and the hypocrisy of a civilized society. When the novel first begins, Huck struggles against society and then it attempts to civilize him. It shows how Jim wants to escape slavery and be free, and that is also another thing that reflects back in America during the time and what all of the slaves wanted to do.

Some of the challenges that the characters face during that time is slavery. Jim was a black man that escaped slavery, and then got sold again into slavery. Another challenge that they faced was racism, jim was constantly got called a nigger, and the white people didn't care that they were being racist. they also faced poverty, because the characters did not have a home, they lived on a small raft, and they had to lie and steal to get money.

Some ways that the people in Huckleberry Finn expressed the challenges they were facing was through slavery, racism, and poverty. They did it through slavery by showing how they treated their slaves and what they did to them. Slavery and racism was a big challenge for colored people sense they were always treated like they were not even humans. Jim is an example sense he had a bounty on him when he ran away but it the prize money wasn’t as big as Huck’s so I believe they didn’t think slaves to be that valuable. Poverty in Huckleberry was shown by almost every one sense they didn’t have a lot or they were living in bad conditions.

In “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”, author is writing about characters Huck and Jim. Jim is a slave, and Huck is his white friend. Together they decide to run away, so Jim would be free. The irony is that they start going South, instead of going North. At that time period, slavery was more common in South, and in the North, blacks could have jobs, but still weren’t treated equally. Jim was treated as a slave, he was called “nigger”, and when he was running away with Huck, he had to stay undiscovered. If discovered, he could have been sold, or killed, and probably wouldn’t have another chance of running away. Even though people didn’t treat Jim equally, Huck treated Jim as he would treat a white man, and wasn’t sorry for it as some others would be.

The character Jim, shows the racist problem of the time. In which puts your thoughts into what will happen to Jim because he is a nigger. Not only would he be a slave if caught but he would be constantly sold to other people if he is not liked. Jim is a very independent slave and can hold his own even if something harsh happens. He shows this throughout the book and is able to go along with Hucks plan to keep him safe with his lying. Jim is a major role that shows the reality of how a man of his race has to adapt to the hardship during this time of mass racism.

Both Jim and Huck represent the challenges facing American people in that time. Jim shows how badly the slaves were being treated. He represents the struggle of black Americans that we're being oppressed. Slaves had to do everything to their superiors. Slaves were treated as property, Jim had a bounty set on him as if he was a lost animal. Huck was also a representation of an american from the North. Huck had no problem with slaves. Jim and Huck have a strong relationship and they feel as if they are equals. Both Huck and Jim represent the struggles of the Pre-civil war time

Racism was a major theme within the whole book. Twain showed us a story of slavery, but gave us a theme of freedom as well. Huck had to escort Jim at night down the river for the North so people wouldn’t see them. And if a person, or white man, were to question them. Huck would tell him that he’s caught a slave escaping and that he’s bringing him back. It shows that Huck didn’t care that he was black and that there can be a relationship between blacks and whites. This was like a pre- civil war story.

I think the characters in this book show a lot how people are treated and how they treated each other. They weren't treated with the most respect and weren't that nice to each other. I think this help us learn more that we can add to add to the history we already know and we can use the history and the things that we have learned from our past to understand how it was during this time in a more clear image. With this book we understand a lot more and its like a play that goes on in our (or my head) head as we are reading to understand these hard times. People could be so cruel back then and i am so glad that most people don't treat others that way anymore and they dont treat colored the way they did treat them a few decades ago. I hope as people read this story and understand about slavery help change our present day society to not be as cruel as they use to against others and we can learn to respect and appreciate others more regardless of their race or color.

Huckleberry Finn shows the challenges America is facing in the 1840s, such as poverty, slavery, racism, and poor education. Jim shows the challenges of racism and slavery he tries to escape from, where families are split, black men are taken into slavery just for being black, and they are considered lesser. Huck and his pap, aswell as the King and Duke, show the poverty America was facing at the time, disregarding morals to be able to make some quick coin, not really living in good conditions, and usually consider people less valuable because of the rough lifestyle they live. Miss Watson expresses that the people of the time are un-educated and disregard religion, as she tries to teach Huck.
