In the article “A Nightmare of Need” the author, Samuel Irving Bellman, starts by talking about how in their freshmen English class they were introduced to “Ethan Frome” and they found it to be flat, unappealing, and unimaginative. Even after going back to the book for the literature course they found the characters to remain colorless, lifeless, and difficult to imagine as players in a human drama. What they said was, “a single-text study such as Springer’s, complete with an appendix on a 1936 dramatization of Ethan Frome, a chronological listing of author’s life and works, notes and references, bibliography and index, would appear to offer a basis for a belated or renewed appreciation of the story.” I assume that springer is another person who reviewed the book. They then continue by talking about the book and how Springer says how Wharton’s life was kind of based on “Ethan Frome” because of the relationships she had with her closest friend, her lover, and her husband were in chaos. When I read the article her those people sounded close to the way Ethan, Zeena, and Mattie act. The rest of the article is just the author of the article talking about other people’s opinion’s of the book.

In Ethan Frome: A Nigthmare of Need, the author talks about how he was introduced to Ethan Frome in his freshman year. He said that the book was flat, unappealing, and unimaginative. The author has used the book in a course, but has never changed his opinion on the book. The characters have remained colorless, lifeless, difficult to imagine as players in a human drama. Springer's text study said that it offered a basis for a belated or renewed apreciation for the story. Later on, the article talks about how Wharton's life was similar to Ethan Frome because of his relationships he had. The rest of the article had other people's opinion on why they liked or didn't like the book.

Bellman in his article titled "A Nightmare of The Needs" talks about his freshman year reading assignment. That book being nonetheless the mellow Ethan Frome. When he read the book he thought to himself over and over that the book was "unimaginative" and really "flat". He went on to describe the character emotion flaws and how "lifeless" they are in the story. He said that him and his class hated the book essentially and that it never really appealed to them because they just saw it as a flat book. Even after all those years of growing up the author still has the same opinion of the book. he even goes on to tell us that he teaches Ethan From in one of his classes and still strongly agrees that the characters offer little life to the readers and that it is still a "flat" book. Bellman does a great job in the article not just showing his opinion of the book, but y encompassing other's opinions about it and stressing his thesis out by supporting it with these claims.

In freshman year Samuel Bellman was introduced to a writer called Ethan Frome. Samuel found his work boring and unappealing and he thought it was lifeless and hard to imagine and picture in his head. Later on they eventually made a play about Ethan Frome’s book and it was easier for him to vision and it was about how he married a woman named Zeena and he fell in love with her cousin and how Zeena got sick and there was a lot of chaos between them and how he was trapped with what he had gotten himself into with falling in love while still being married caused him so much pain and internal struggle because no matter what he tried to do he could never get away from the troubling problems he had brought upon himself. He never fully faced his problems and always tried to find a simple easy way out but it could never work he only hurt his mind worse and worse and never really thought of other ways that were more complex to figure out the answer to his problems.

in a nightmare of need it starts off about a highschool kid having to read ethan frome and how he thought it was just dull and not so interesting. he went on and started to describe all the characters, etc. just like everyone else above said, even after all those years he still seemed to be not interested in it whatsoever. all of the students found ethan frome "flat" and had the exact same opinion about him/his stories.
