Autobiography 1: "Slavery is terrible for men; but it is far more terrible for women. Super added to the burden common to all, they have wrongs, and sufferings, and mortification's peculiarly their own." This quote from chapter 14 embodies Harriett Jacobs most important work to the literature of slavery. She talks about her description of the slaves. They included detailed descriptions of whippings and other physical abuses. This chapter talks about how men reclaim their manhood, is to fight his master. Jacob's creates a different type of telling when it comes to the female slaves. (The quote goes on further). She states that if they are/are not beaten, starved, or made to work in the fields, all the female slaves suffer horrible tortures such as sexual harassment and the loss of their children.
