Just make sure to stay on top of assignments and home work. If you pay attention in class you should be fine. The small class activities do help when it comes to planning what you want to write about in the large unit essays. Give yourself plenty of time to write these essays as they have to be quite long, detailed, and at the AP lang. standard. Making an organized plan before writing your essays, blogs, and annotations in this class makes the writing so much easier.

The most important thing to do in this class is to always pay attention because you will need the information later when you are writing a blog or an essay. Make sure you gradually study the vocabulary as well as the literary devices. Check the calendar so you know what will happen in class that day and come prepared by having read the parts that will be discussed that day. If you wait until the last minute to do the assignments, you will only stress yourself out and overwork yourself. Turn them in on time or as soon as you can so that you are not playing catch-up. Take plenty of short and summarized notes during a lecture because they will come in handy when you write a blog or your essay.

You have decided to venture into the world of APLang… I’m not going to lie; for some people this world of essays, reading prompts, and countless vocab words will be a challenge. In order to survive, there are a couple of things you must do. First, don’t panic over the amount of homework and In-class assignments Ms. Moriconi gives you, it will just lead the way to stress. Second, don’t throw away your vocab cards because there is a chance that you will need them later on in the year; it will save you time when a vocab lists includes words in a previous list. Third, really pay attention in class. If you venture off into your daydreams, doodling, or start talking to your friends, you might miss something important that you could have used in your essay or helped you understand the book you are reading a bit better. Last but not least, have fun with the class! Put some of your personality in your essay and presentations. At first I found this class very challenging but through hard work and dedication, I grew to like it in the end.

The number one piece of advice I would give to future AP Language students is to always stay on top of your work, because if you don’t, you will get behind, and it will be very hard to catch up as you just continue to more work. Whenever you read a novel, short story, play, etc, always and I mean always, do your quote log alongside your reading assignment, every quote log is collected and you don’t want to have to find quotes for everything you have read, the night before the log is due. You will be assigned a major essay every quarter, I suggest that you start it as early as possible, because it not only takes time to write, you also have to calculate in the time it costs to edit, make the bibliography and insert SAT words. In order to prepare for the AP exam in May you will do several in class timed essays, in order to get the best possible score, make sure you always have an introduction, three body paragraphs with several supports, and a good conclusion that doesn’t just restate what you have previously said. There will be several vocabulary quizzes and they need to be taken quite seriously, this is because not only will the words continue to reappear in the items you read, they will also show up on the multiple choice section of the AP exam. If you don’t understand an assignment don’t hesitate to go ask Ms. Moriconi, it is better to have her re-explain the assignment to you, then that you do what you think it is, but then it is actually completely wrong. AP Language is going to be a lot of work, but if you work diligently and stay on top of your assignments, I can guarantee that you will be successful. Good luck and have fun in AP Language!

My advice to next year’s class is when you’re assigned an essay, start working on it as soon as possible. Also do all the work assigned as soon as possible otherwise you’ll be drowning in paperwork. Take notes during lectures. You might use them for your essay. Keep all of your work organized, don’t procrastinate then you’ll be successful.

I could sit here and write a big long speech about how you need to do your work and always be on time and constantly study. See that's not my advice it's more of make sure you know what you are doing. A lot of times you will be doing things like reading a book that you cannot understand due to the dialect. So, find things that will help you like read the chapter and look up spark notes (reading spark notes is NOT reading the book), or check to see if there is a movie available. So yes you will have to make sure you do the work and participate in class (Ms. Moriconi loves discussions, and you do to cause it takes up lots of time), participating helps you in class as well so try not to miss too many classes. So if you want good grades make sure you understand what is going on. Good luck on all your work, YOU WILL NEED IT >:) MUAHAHAHAA.

I would advise not to put homework off. Keeping up with your blogs may seem like a chore, but it will save you lots of effort in the long run in catching up with blogs at the end of the quarter. When reading books, make an effort with your quote logs. They will genuinely be important when it comes to writing your lengthy essays! I would also advise to learn your vocabulary words by associating them with easier to remember things in your memory. When it comes to writing the essays, spread the writing process out. Print out your sources and quote logs, plan the essay, then work paragraph by paragraph over a week or so to ensure you aren't burned out by trying to write too much at once. Ensure to use SAT Vocabulary in your essays and to use the MLA format, those are easy points!

AP Lang is a joke. Don't be one of those losers who take it seriously. Who cares about books? Reading is lame. Don't attempt to focus in class, or actually try to understand what Ms. Moriconi is teaching. It’s a waste of time! Definitely will not come back to haunt you later, I promise. What she teaches is totally not central to the difficult 6-8 page essays that she totally will not throw your way. Also, screw SAT vocabulary! I, for one, do not rue the day when I ebulliently relegated the arduous and abstruse vocab list into the trash can. Why would a hedonistic and gregarious person such as I throw away my time to become erudite in such esoteric terminology? I am unable to condone or exonerate my inane, ribald, and clearly egregious peers for their zealous assiduousness towards learning those words. Every time they open their mouths to pronounce one, the truculent dissonance that is produced resembles nothing close to SAT vocab, only an obstreperous cacophony. Obviously, I haven’t learned a single SAT word, so I’m sure you can guess how much of a waste of time this class is. Regardless, one last thing is just don’t waste your time with the lame books. Trust me, you’ll pull through whatever easy essay that is assigned in the last hour and won’t have any sleepless nights whatsoever! Pshhh, it’s not like if you read the books one or two might actually be enjoyably and thought-provoking, I mean come on. Also, I guess it’s important to remind you that it’s not like this class actually prepares you for anything at all. I mean, your SAT score totally won’t skyrocket from this class, believe me. Colleges who see you have taken this class won’t be impressed that you had the sheer gut and determination coupled with the diligence and intelligence totally not required to get through this really uncool class. You won’t be better prepared to understand speeches, novels, poems, and other pieces of language that the world totally will not throw at you, trust me. Yeah, so just don’t waste your time with this class. You wouldn’t want to be a loser, would you?
