"No man who was not a true gentleman at heart ever was, since the world began a true gentlemen in manner. He says, no varnish can hide the grain of the wood; and that the more varnish you put on, the more the grain will express itself."

A) According to Dickens, a true gentleman will always be a gentleman. From when we was a boy till the day he dies he should stay noble and worthy of not just one individual but all individuals and they should be treated with great respect, generosity, and love. When Dickens says "gentleman in manner," he is making the inference that a gentleman is always on his best behavior and always well mannered no matter what the situation may be.

a) I think “gentleman in manner” means that if you are a “gentleman” it doesn’t necessarily mean you have manners but some people may not be classified as a gentleman but they could still have better manners than someone who is actually classified as one.

A) I think that “gentlemen in manner” means that men are working on being gentlemen. They are practicing being gentlemen and how to walk, what to wear, and how to be polite.
